Apparently it’s traditional for the first blog post to explain your motivation for blogging. I can think of two motives – one software related and the other not:
The software motive
I’ve benefitted countless times from the valuable free advice of thousands of great software blogs. If I can manage to think of one nugget of advice that benefits one other person then at least I will have done something to repay my debt. My fascination is the English language and mathematics, and how these two disciplines can teach us to write better code.
The other motive
“I write because I don’t know what I think until I read what I say.” – Flannery O’Connor
The world has become a very strange place and I don’t understand it anymore. Causes don’t seem to have effects in the way that they used to. Inadequate though it may be, I would like to at least share my sense of bewilderment. To articulate that slowly dwindling anticipation that one day soon God will walk in and say “Thanks for waiting guys; sorry, I’ve been in a meeting. Okay, here’s what’s really going on: …”.
